​Scott Shines in Milestone Outing

On a day dedicated to honoring their past, the New York Mets’ young core provided plenty of reasons to be excited about the future.​Behind a milestone performance from rookie right-hander Christian Scott and an offensive power surge, the Mets cruised to a 6-1 series-clinching victory over the Miami Marlins at Citi Field on Saturday afternoon. The win extended the Mets' winning streak to three games, a welcome turnaround after a sluggish offensive showing earlier in the week.

​The celebratory atmosphere was set before the first pitch, as the organization inducted legendary manager Bobby Valentine and fan-favorite Lee Mazzilli into the Mets Hall of Fame. The energy from the ceremony carried right into the dugout.

​"It's just good to see some of the guys here playing with some confidence, playing loose and having fun and picking each other up," manager Carlos Mendoza said. "There’s a lot of good things going on offensively top to bottom."

​On the mound, Christian Scott was electric. The highly touted prospect delivered the best performance of his young season, striking out eight Marlins over five stellar innings to earn his first career Major League victory. Scott kept Miami's hitters off-balance all afternoon, pounding the zone and leaning on his put-away pitches in crucial counts.

​A Fourth-Inning Breakthrough

​The Mets' offense, which has now plated 19 runs over its last three games, broke the game open in the fourth inning. ​After a frustrating third inning that saw the Mets squander a promising first-and-third situation with a botched safety squeeze and a caught stealing, the lineup bounced back emphatically. Mark Vientos delivered the game's biggest swing, ripping a ringing two-run double off the left-field wall to put New York on the board. Marcus Semien followed shortly after with an RBI single to center, capping a three-run frame.​"It's good to see guys like Vientos have good back-to-back games," Mendoza said of his first baseman, who also homered the night before. "When he's on, he can carry us. We saw that in 2024."

​Firsts and Fireworks

​The Mets didn't take their foot off the gas in the later innings, relying on the long ball to put the game out of reach. In the sixth, designated hitter Jared Young crushed his first home run of the 2026 season into the right-field seats. ​An inning later, catcher Hayden Senger provided the most memorable highlight of the afternoon, launching a slider deep into the left-field bleachers for his first career big league home run. Juan Soto then added the finishing touch with an RBI single to center, scoring Carson Benge and bringing the Mets' run total to six.

​Saturday's performance was exactly what the Mets envisioned when they constructed this roster: dominant starting pitching paired with power and situational hitting. As the Mets look to build momentum, games like this prove they have the firepower to compete with anyone
