MetsXMFanZone Morning Report: Recapping the Arlington finale, breaking down the major front-office addition of Derek Falvey, and previewing the final weekend series of the regular season in Washington, D.C.
New York, NY — Good morning, Mets faithful. As Friday morning gets underway, the Amazins wake up in the nation’s capital to begin their final three games of the regular season against the Washington Nationals.
While the on-field campaign is entering its final 72 hours, the real momentum surrounding the franchise is shifting directly toward the front office, where David Stearns and Steve Cohen have already commenced aggressive offseason restructuring.
Here is everything you need to know to start your Friday.
Front Office Shakeup: Derek Falvey Joins David Stearns
The biggest development out of Queens this week is the appointment of Derek Falvey as Senior Advisor of Baseball Operations.
1. Falvey, who directed baseball operations for the Minnesota Twins across nine seasons (securing three AL Central crowns and four postseason berths), reunites with Stearns from their early days in Cleveland. Bringing an executive of Falvey’s caliber into Citi Field signals two critical priorities:
Falvey built a reputation in Minnesota for leveraging analytical pitching labs and making sharp trades for rotation cornerstones.
Scouting Alignment: Alongside Falvey’s arrival, the Mets promoted Vice President of Amateur Scouting Kris Gross to Assistant General Manager of Scouting, ensuring continuity in player acquisition.
2. Let's recap this series:
The Mets missed out on a road sweep at Globe Life Field on Thursday afternoon, falling 3–1 to the Texas Rangers:
The Bright Spot: Francisco Lindor led off the game with a double and scored on an RBI single from rookie Carson Benge, giving New York an immediate 1–0 advantage.
The Cold Spell: Texas righty Kumar Rocker and three Rangers relievers quieted the Mets from there, holding New York to just four total hits on the day.
The Rotation: Rookie left-hander Zac Thornton turned in a solid five innings of four-hit ball, but two-run and solo homers from Josh Jung and Corey Seager decided the contest.
3. On Deck: Final 2026 Series at Nationals Park
