Mets Fall to Phillies 7–2 in Citi Field Home Finale

The New York Mets were unable to close out their final home stand of the season with a series victory, falling 7–2 to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon. Despite out-hitting Philadelphia 10–7, missed opportunities with runners in scoring position and a late-inning Phillies surge sealed the four-game split at Citi Field.

Sánchez Stifles the Lineup

Philadelphia southpaw Cristopher Sánchez set the tone from the jump, continually frustrating New York’s bats and notching his major league-leading 18th win of the campaign. Sánchez worked 6.1 innings, limiting the Mets to two runs on six hits while fanning six. The Mets had chances early—putting runners aboard across multiple frames—but repeatedly ran into outs on the basepaths and failed to find the clutch two-out knock, stranding six and going just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Bo Bichette provided New York’s primary jolt in the home half of the sixth, launching a solo home run (his 17th of the year) to left-center to get the Mets on the board at 4–1.

Tong Battles; Bullpen Escapes and Stumbles

Mets starter Jonah Tong labored through 4.2 innings. After a 29-pitch first frame and an accidental spike by Bryson Stott at first base, Tong showed grit to stay in the contest. However, four early runs, four walks, and five hits forced Carlos Mendoza to go to the bullpen before Tong could qualify for the fifth.

Jack Weisenburger and Jefry Yan kept the deficit within striking distance with scoreless relief work. In the bottom of the seventh, the Mets staged a legitimate threat: Francisco Alvarez singled, A.J. Ewing drew in with a knock, and Brett Baty drove in an RBI single to cut Philadelphia's lead to 4–2. With the tying runs aboard, Phillies reliever Alex McFarlane quelled the rally by inducing an infield pop-up from Francisco Lindor and punching out Juan Soto to end the frame. The game tilted out of reach in the eighth. Kodai Senga entered in relief but struggled with command, issuing walks to load the bases before Justin Crawford ripped a bases-clearing triple down the line to stretch Philadelphia’s lead to 7–2. The Mets conclude their 2026 Citi Field home slate with a 36–45 home mark. Following an off-day on Monday, New York heads to Arlington, Texas, to open an interleague road series against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.
